So back in mid-August I claimed that even though I was returning to work, I'd still try and periodically post to my blog. Obviously, I've failed--and I apologize.
Believe me, it's frustrating. My art has served me well over the years as a much-needed glimmer of light, distracting me from the darkness that is my J-O-B. However, so far this year the dark has been winning. Ugh...
Now I'm in the midst of a short break from work, so my mindset's much improved. Thankfully I've been able to get back in the "studio" and play around.
Here are a couple of small (approx. 8" height) pieces I've thrown together. They're entitled "Siren #1" and "Siren #2": a nod to the mythological bird-women who tempted sailors.
Below are a couple of close-up shots of the vintage photos that I used as the focal points for these pieces. I used white acrylic ink to manipulate the images, which were then turned on their sides and placed inside little boxes on which I cut out bird silhouettes.
The (sometimes mad) ramblings of a mixed media artist.
