Last fall I found a canvas (2 x 3 feet) at a garage sale. Even though I'm not a painter, for two bucks I couldn't resist bringing it home. In the winter I cut up a few brown paper grocery bags and glued them to the canvas; my intent was to create a bit of texture. After that I painted it red and black (see first pic below), and then for whatever reason it sat in my workspace until today when I resurrected it.
I just put the finishing (perhaps--I may add a bit more later) touches on the piece by glueing chunks of text I cut from a circus poster. This morning I played around with other colors--some green, some white, and some blues (second pic).
Layer one: glued on pieces of brown paper bag. Layer two: black paint, red paint, and a bit of sanding to reveal what's below.
Layer 3: a bit more paint and some more sanding.
Layer 4: glued down chunks of text cut from a poster.
The (sometimes mad) ramblings of a mixed media artist.
